Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame
Vic Belger, class of 1965, was inducted into the UIU Hall of Fame in the coaching category. A three-year letter winner in baseball at UIU, Belger had compiled a 28-year baseball coaching career record of 754-226 and a basketball coaching career record of 249-121. He was inducted into the Iowa Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1995. He was also named State Coach of the Year in 1990, District Coach of the Year in 1970, ’84, ’88, ’89, ’90, ’92 and Iowa High School All-Star Game Coach in 1980.
His baseball record includes eight conference championships, 10 sectional championships, 10 district championships, four substate championships and our state tournament appearances with one state championship. In basketball, his record includes four conference championships and three district championships. He was named District Coach of the Year in 1984 and 1990 and Iowa High School All-Star Game Coach in 1987.
A graduate of Iowa City High School, Belger completed his master’s degree at Wayne State (Nebraska). He was a teacher or counselor, and coach, in Illinois, Colorado, the Armed Forces and at five Iowa schools including Creston Community Schools, where he has worked since 1982.
He and his wife, Pat, live in Creston. They are the parents of two sons, Scott and Kurt.
