Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame
Lowell Tiedt, class of 1971, was a four-year wrestling letter winner at the 152 and 158 lb. classes; tri-captain; IIAC runner-up in 1967 and 1968; and IIAC conference champion in 1969 and 1970. He was a three-time national qualifier in the N.A.I.A., and in 1970 he was selected to the Senior College All-Star Wrestling Team.
A 1966 graduate of Wapsie Valley High School, Tiedt earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education and physical education from Upper Iowa and his master’s degree in administration from Truman State University.
Following graduation, Tiedt coached wrestling and taught at Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School for 10 years and is currently a teacher and coach at Taft Middle School in Cedar Rapids. A 29-year member of the Iowa Army National Guard, he holds the rank of command sergeant major. Tiedt has also been awarded the 25-years of service plaque for officiating wrestling.
He and his wife, Ann, also a 1971 graduate of Upper Iowa, live in Anamosa, Iowa. They have three daughters: Danielle, Lisa and Kari.
