Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame
Jamie (Luchtel) Van Erem is being inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame as an athlete. She is a 2001 graduate with a B.S. degree in Sports Science with minors in Biology and Psychology. Van Erem was a four-year letter winner for the Peacock women’s basketball team from 1997 to 2001 and was named to the All-I.I.A.C. first team as a center in 2000, along with second team honors in 1999 and 2001.
Van Erem, an All-Academic Iowa Conference selection in 2000 and 2001, was named Team MVP twice in 2000 and 2001 and was the team’s captain her last three basketball seasons. She was the UIU Athletics Department’s nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year in 2001. She ranks fifth all-time in scoring with 1,141 points. Van Erem also accumulated 760 career rebounds, which ranks third All-Time and holds UIU’s top mark for offensive rebounds in a season with 124. She played basketball under Coach Bill Wilson and was a member of the Peacock volleyball team for three years as well.
Van Erem has been practicing pediatric physical therapy for over seven years in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area after earning a Master’s of Physical Therapy Degree from the University of Iowa in 2003. She presently serves as a Physical Therapist for the Area Education Agency in Waterloo and is also an Adjunct Professor at Hawkeye Community College.
She enjoyed an outstanding interscholastic career at Alamogordo High School in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
Jamie and her husband Ryan, a 2000 graduate of Upper Iowa and football player for the Peacocks, live in Waterloo. They are the parents of Jersey and Jack.
