Calvin Harms

Calvin Harms received his bachelor’s of arts degree from Upper Iowa University in 1948. While at Upper Iowa Harms was a member of the undefeated football team in 1946 and was captain of the Conference Championship football team in 1947. Harms lettered in football three times and basketball two times.

After graduation, Harms coached football at Central Community Schools in Elkader, Iowa from 1948 to 1952.

After leaving coaching, he entered the business profession, but he has continued to devote time to athletics by officiating in area sports events. He has received numerous awards for officiating in his career.

Harms is a Charter Member of the Iowa High School Officials Hall of Fame, which began in 1977. That same year, Harms was inducted into the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.

He was given the prestigious Distinguished Service Award for National Federation from the State High Association in 1983, and in 1978 Upper Iowa honored him with an Alumni Achievement Award. Harms lives in Sumner, Iowa, where he is a partner in the Harms Insurance Agency.
