Don Dutton, part of the graduating class of 1964, was an outstanding basketball player at Upper Iowa University. A four-year letter winner in basketball, he is a member of the UIU 1,000 point club and is currently seventh in career points with 1,507.

In 1964, Dutton was nominated for the prestigious Clarkson Award. He was also an All-Conference First Team selection as a junior and senior after being a Second Team choice as a sophomore. For a stint after graduation, he played AAU ball for Iowa City Red’s World.

Dutton was also an All-Conference outfielder in 1963 and 1964 for the Peacock baseball squad.

After his playing career, he became a school teacher and head basketball coach at Clarence High School, then Oskaloosa High School. After obtaining his master’s degree from Iowa State University, he spent one year as head baseball coach at Iowa City Regina.

After serving five years as assistant principal at North High School in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Dutton switched to the middle school level to become principal at Merrill Middle School, also in Oshkosh.
