Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame
Dr. Angela (Baldrige) Thompson is being inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame as an athlete. Thompson was a four-year letter winner for the Peacock women’s basketball team from 2000-04. Thompson, whose maiden name is Baldrige, was named to the All-Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Second Team as a junior in UIU’s final NCAA Division III season in 2002-03. In Up-per Iowa’s first season moving up to the NCAA Division II level, she scored a career-best 445 points to join the 1,000-point club. Thompson is currently fifth all-time on the scoring list at Up-per Iowa with 1,159 points; she also pulled down 590 rebounds in her four seasons. Following graduation from UIU, Thompson began teaching and coaching at Muncie Southside High School in Muncie, Indiana. She spent three years in Muncie before moving to St. Louis, Missouri and continuing her career in education as a teacher and coach at Webster Groves High School. Four years after arriving at Webster Groves, Thompson was promoted to assistant principal in 2011. Now entering her ninth year in administration, she is fueled by the everyday wins with her students and staff. Thompson furthered her own education with both a master’s degree and doctorate in administration, which she completed in 2011 and 2016, respectively. She met her husband, Tavares, while at Upper Iowa. He played football for the Peacocks and the two married in 2006. They are the proud parents of Julius Jordan and Myles Russell.
