Steve Exline received his B.S. from Upper Iowa University in 1971. At UIU, he was a four-year regular on the football team and was All-Iowa Conference lineman for the 1969-70 season. He was one of two wrestlers in Iowa Conference history to win four Conference championships. A three-time N.A.I.A. All-American wrestler, he was N.A.I.A. heavy-weight titleholder in 1970 and again in 1971. When he finished his mat career at UIU, he had posted more wins than any Iowa collegiate wrestler up to that time with a record of 124.
Upon graduation from UIU, Exline was a graduate assistant coach at Bemidji State University. He was also a coach and teacher at Forest Lake, Minnesota.
In 1979, Steve had the honor of being inducted into the N.A.I.A National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
