Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame
Tyler Mumbulo was inducted into the Upper Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame as an athlete. Mumbulo graduated from Upper Iowa in 2011 and wrestled for the Peacocks for four varsity seasons from 2006-2010. He graduated with a degree in psychology.
Mumbulo came to Upper Iowa from Bainbridge, N.Y. and spent his whole career at 125 pounds for the Peacock wrestling team. He was named the NSIC Rookie of the Year and the team's Outstanding Newcomer following his freshman season in 2005-06 where he finished the season in the consolation second round of the NCAA Division II Championships with a 23-9 mark. The awards foreshadowed an unforgettable career for the Peacock varsity starter in 2005-08 and 2009-2010. Mumbulo earned a career record of 94-25 during his four varsity seasons and led the team in wins and falls in 2007-08.
Following a redshirt season, Mumbulo reached the NCAA Division II finals in 2010 and was named UIU's Outstanding Wrestler along with fellow Peacock Hall of Famers Mitch Norton and Travis Eggers. The trio led Upper Iowa to a third-place trophy at the 2010 NCAA Division II National Championships in Omaha, Neb.
Mumbulo earned NCAA All-American honors three times thanks to an eighth-place finish in 2007, a sixth-place finish in 2008 and the runner up finish in 2010. He earned All-NSIC honors four times and qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships four times fueled by four NCAA Regional Finals appearances.
Mumbulo currently works for Cargill, Inc. and resides in Mason City, Iowa. He and his wife Ashley are the proud parents of five children; Paxton, Liam, Luxx, Maverick and Reese.
