Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame
Donald Kuehner, baseball coach at Marist High School in Chicago, Illinois for the past 24 years, was a baseball letterman and outstanding pitcher at Upper Iowa University where he went undefeated his senior year (1961). His career record for coaching is 663-270 and includes an Illinois AA State Championship.
Nine of his teams were named East Suburban Conference Champions, one team was a state semi-finalist and many earned All-State honors. Kuehner was named the A.B.C.A. Coach of the Year in 1978 and was inducted into the Illinois High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1981. He was also a coach and instructor at two Iowa High Schools: Turkey Valley (1962-1967) and St. Luke’s (1961-1962).
His career achievements and activities include a spot on the coaching staff for Team Chicago, international baseball trips to European countries for six straight summers, All-State and All-Star selection committee appearances, a Chicago Sun Times All-Star selection committee appearance and a baseball camp director for 11 years. Kuehner also spoke at many baseball clinics along the way and in three different states and he was a scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates and referee for high school and college basketball games.
