Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame
TYRONE FAMBRO, class of 1994, is being inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletic Hall of Fame as an Athlete. He was a four-year letter winner in wrestling (1990, 1991, 1992, 1993) while also earning three letters in cross country and one letter in football during his career with the Peacocks. Fambro placed four times in the Iowa Conference tournament in 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993, and earned a conference championship in 1993. He was named an NCAA Division III All-American in 1991, 1992 and 1993. Fambro reached the pinnacle of his wrestling career in 1993 when he won the 126-pound NCAA Division III National Championship. Prior to winning the major title, he was a second-place finisher on the national level in 1992. He wrestled under the tutelage of the late Coach Mike McCready.
Fambro earned a B.S. degree in Physical Education from Upper Iowa University in 1994. He is presently teaching physical education and serves as the Head Wrestling Coach/Assistant Football Coach at Rockford Auburn High School in Rockford, Ill. He is also the Co-Pastor of the Christian Growth Center in his hometown.
Tyrone and his wife Akiko (Sugano), a 1993 Upper Iowa graduate, live in Rockford, Ill. They are the parents of two boys, Psalm Nobuyuki and Ecclesias Yuuki.
