Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame
Everett "Eb" Eischeid began his athletic career at Oelwein High School where he received all state honors in football. He entered UIU in 1934, playing outstanding ball all four years. In his senior year, the Des Moines Register named him the best all-around back, defensive back, safety man and place kicker.
Upon graduation from UIU in 1938, he joined the Iowa high school coaching ranks first at Orage City, and successively at Story City, Pleasantville and Independence. He left the latter in 1955 and returned to UIU as John “Doc” Dorman’s assistant football coach. Upon Doc’s retirement as football coach, Eb became the head coach.
In addition to his football duties, Eb coached a pair of basketball teams to successive Iowa Conference championships in 1957 and 1958. He coached the Iowa Conference football title-holder in 1964, and is one of a handful of IIAC coaches to claim championships in two sports. He was also Doc’s assistant in baseball for the championship and unbeaten team of 1956.
Plagued by a heart problem, he retired from coaching in 1968, but remained in his post as athletic director until retirement in 1977. He died November 5, 1979.
This award was presented in his memory to his family, and was received by his daughters, Patricia, Margaret, and his son, Mike.
