Grant Peterson, class of 1939, was a four-year letter winner and three-year starter in football and baseball at UIU. He was also a member of the undefeated football team in 1937. Peterson later earned his master’s degree from the University of Iowa.

Following graduation, he was a teacher and coach, with a stint in the United State Navy from 1942-45 as a guard commander and communications officer. He coached boys and girls basketball at Stanley High School from 1939-41; coached football, basketball, track and baseball at West Branch High School from 1941-42 and 1945-49; coached football, basketball and baseball from 1949 to 1953 at Vinton High School; coached football, basketball and track at Marshalltown Junior High School from 1953-81.

He was elected to the Iowa High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1971 and was given the Fisher Award for the Junior High Teacher of the Year in Marshalltown.

He and his wife, Margaret, have one daughter, Lynne, and live in Marshalltown, Iowa.
