Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame
Al Hadar came to Upper Iowa in 1938 from Sullivan, Indiana. He was recommended to Head Football Coach “Doc” Dorman by his high school coach – one of “Doc’s Boys” – Spike Kelly, who is also in the UIU Hall of Fame.
As a member of UIU’s football team, Hadar contributed to a Conference Championship in 1939 and was named team captain in 1941.
After graduation, Hadar served two tours of duty with the U.S. Marine Corps before beginning a highly successful coaching career.
Hadar eventually left coaching in 1961, but continued his interest in athletics. He invented the indoor shot put and built the Hadar Athletic Manufacturing Company around his inventions of athletic products.
