Jim Mitchell is being inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame as an Athlete. He was a four-year letter winner in wrestling for the Peacocks  from 1974-77. He is a 1977 graduate of Upper Iowa with a B.A. degree in Accounting with minors in Business and Physical Education.
 
Mitchell wrestled at 167 pounds for the Peacocks and was a four-time placewinner in the I.I.A.C. Tournament. He was Conference champion in 1975 and 1976, along with a second place finish in 1977. A three-time National Qualifier, he competed in the NAIA tournament in 1975 and the NCAA Division III tournament in 1976 and 1977 at 167 pounds.
 
Mitchell’s other major accomplishments on the mat included first place finishes in the UIU Individual Tournament, the Coe and Wartburg Invitationals, and the Luther Takedown Tournament. He wrestled at Upper Iowa under Coach Don Parker. A Riceville High School graduate, he was an outstanding interscholastic wrestler, in 1973 he earned a first place title in the Iowa state tournament at 155 pounds.
 
Mitchell has been with Farm Bureau Financial Services for 34 years. He earned the Chartered Life Underwriter Degree in 1985 and attained Master Agent and Royal Court Honor along with Premier Club and All-American and Pacesetter Awards. In his spare time he is a Fayette County farmer.
 
Jim currently lives in Fayette with wife of 35 years, Carla, and are the parents of Kevin, Jennifer, and Clarissa.
