Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame
Dr. Carl “Scott” Linge never attended UIU, but his outstanding service to the University has earned him the Athletic Service Award. A veteran of World War II, Linge received his bachelor’s of science and M.D. degrees from the University of Iowa.
He practiced medicine in Fayette from 1953 until his retirement in 1982. He served on the Upper Iowa University Board of Trustees from 1968 to 1984, presiding as the board chair from 1976 to 1979.
Dr. Linge also served as the team doctor for Peacock athletics during his tenure in Fayette without remuneration. On the gridiron, he was a constant sideline figure, along with Dr. Dorman in the 1950s, and then served other coaches and athletes on Robertson’s Woods Field.
Dr. Linge was also actively involved with the Fayette community. He founded the Fayette Medical Clinic in 1960, went door-to-door to help sell bonds for the Fayette nursing home, and played roles in the development of the Fayette golf course and Volga Lake project. In 1982, he was honored by the City of Fayette.
Dr. Linge was also a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice. He participated actively in the preceptor program for the University of Iowa Medical School and the Family Practice Association. He was a volunteer physician on several missions to St. Jude’s Hospital in St. Lucia, British West Indies. He passed away in 1986.
