Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame
Steve Zeman is being inducted into the Upper Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame as an athlete. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 2000.
Zeman was a four-year letter winner for the Peacock baseball team from 1996 to 1999. A multiple position player, he was named to the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) First Team as a catcher in 1997 and 1999. A four-year starter for the Peacocks, he played at second base and the outfield in addition to catching as a junior and senior. Over the four years at Robertson Woods Field, Upper Iowa compiled a 135-51 record overall and a 65-20 mark in IIAC play. The 1996 baseball team won the IIAC Championship and went on to claim the NCAA Division III Central Region Championship earning a berth to the eight-team NCAA Division III World Series.
Zeman's best game catching was a 13-inning affair against Marietta College. Zeman had the game-winning hit in the 13th as UIU defeated the #1-ranked Pioneers, 4-3, in the Central Regional. He hit 10 homeruns as a senior and carried a career batting average of .337 along with a fielding percentage of .967. Zeman played for coaches Rick Heller and Mark Danker.
Prior to Upper Iowa, he played in the Babe Ruth World Series in 1995 and then spent some time with the Collegiate League of Michigan during his summers. He graduated from Booker High School in Sarasota, Florida earning district honors as a senior.
Zeman is currently in his 14th year as a Master Plumber. He and his wife, Denise, have two children, Samantha and Jacob. The family lives in Siesta Beach, Florida.
