Derek Oelmann is being inducted into the Upper Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame as an athlete. Oelmann graduated from Upper Iowa in 2012 with a degree in exercise and sports studies with a sports administration emphasis. The Waverly, Iowa native competed with the Peacock men’s soccer program in 74 matches over four years from 2008-11.
 
A dominant scorer throughout his career, Oelmann is Upper Iowa’s all-time leader in both goals (44) and points (102). He set the program record for goals in a season with 18 in 2010 and ranks second with 14 in 2011, while also holding the top two spots for points in a season with 37 in 2010 and 35 in 2011. As a freshman, he tied the program record for assists in a season with eight.
 
His decorated career included Daktronics Second-Team All-Central Region honors in 2009, Daktronics First-Team All-Central Region recognition in 2010, NSCAA All-Central Region honors in both 2010 and 2011, and NSCAA Second-Team All-America status in 2010.
 
Following graduation, Oelmann continued his career overseas, playing professionally with Woden Valley FC in Canberra, Australia. He was awarded the Canberra National Premier League Golden Boot in 2013 after leading the league with 28 goals. After returning to the United States, Oelmann joined Wells Fargo, where he has worked in the mortgage sales department since 2015, moving into a manager role in 2020. He still finds time to play soccer recreationally each week, while also enjoying golf, time with friends and family, and his dog, Ole.
