DICK WOLD, class of 1966, is being inducted into the Upper Iowa University Athletic Hall of Fame as an athlete. He was a three-year baseball letter winner from 1963-65 while also earning letters as a Peacock basketball player. Wold was a three-peat baseball Iowa Intercollegiate Conference first team first baseman (1963-65). A long-ball, left-handed hitter, Wold had major league scouts following his play. In 1965, Wold signed a professional baseball contract with the Minnesota Twins, and played the 1965 and 1966 seasons with the Twins organization. Wold played his collegiate baseball under the late Coach Dr. Andre Nadeau.

Returning to Upper Iowa, Wold completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and earned a minor in Sociology. His teaching-coaching career started at Elkhorn-Kimballton High School in western Iowa for two years. In 1968, he moved to Maquoketa, Iowa and started teaching in the Middle School. He coached three sports, including serving as the head baseball coach for nine years. In 1975, Wold started a 24-year career as a school administrator, first as an Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, then a 13-year run as Principal of Maquoketa High School. He retired in 1999.

Wold is a 1962 graduate of M-F-L High School in Monona, Iowa where he attained all-state honors in baseball and basketball in 1961 and 1962.

Dick and his wife Elizabeth live in Maquoketa. His children are Mike, Teresa, and Andy.
