Upper Iowa University Athletics Hall of Fame
Robert Mullen received his B.A. from Upper Iowa Unviersity in 1934. He lettered four times in baseball during his career at UIU.
Mullen began his coaching career at Collins, Iowa in 1935 as both boys and girls basketball coach. After three years at Collins, he took a railroad job and stuck with it throughout much of his coaching career. He retired from the railroad in 1977 after 42 years. He spent 27 years at Monticello Sacred Heart, coaching both boys and girls basketball for thirteen years. He then coached girls basketball at Monticello Public School for nine years. Since 1978, Mullen has coached girls basketball at Cedar Rapids Regis. He has an outstanding record as a girls basketball coach with 812 wins and 313 losses.
Mullen was recognized at the 1974 State Basketball Tournament as a superior coach. In 1975, he received the UIU Alumni Achievement Award.
