CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Upper Iowa women's track and field competed at the Coe College Rittgers Invitational on Wednesday. Haylie Hutchinson had the top placing of any Upper Iowa athlete, finishing first in the triple jump at 11.02m (36' 1.75") and in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.01.
That marked Hutchinson's second-best mark of the outdoor season in the triple jump behind her 11.07m (36' 4") jump at the Minnesota State Open. Her 400m hurdle time was also her second-best time of the season behind her 1:05.80 at the Minnesota State Open. The junior took fourth in the 100m hurdles with a season-best time of 16.11 seconds.
Jasheana Tracey had the next highest placing of any Peacock, finishing second in the 100m with a career-best time of 12.66 seconds. Tracey also posted a career-best time in the 200m at 26.09 seconds, beating her previous best at this past weekend's Culver-Stockton Wildcat Open at 26.22 seconds.
She was also a part of the second-place 4x100m team that also featured Carolina Regalado, Jillian Dodds and Aaliyah Comadore. The team ran the race in a season-best 49.94 seconds.
Eryn Sabelka finished fourth in the 400m, also posting a career-best time of 1:01.40. Katie Kraft took fifth in the 3000m at 12:08.59, beating her time this past weekend by almost a full minute. Cheyanna Thompson-Williams finished sixth in the 400m with a season-best time of 1:05.30.
Gracee Tompkins led the Peacocks in the throwing events, taking fourth in the shot put at 11.82m (38' 9.25"), her best throw in outdoor competition. She also took 19th in the discus at 25.98m (85' 3").
Maya White Eagle finished ninth in the shot put with a season-best throw of 10.83m (35' 6.5"). Dereka Henderson recorded a season-best throw of 9.44m (30' 11.75") to finish 22nd, and Rio Johnson recorded an outdoor season-best throw of 8.50m (27' 10.75") to finish 25th.
White Eagle took sixth in the javelin with a throw of 21.74m (71' 4") and also took 22nd in the hammer with a throw of 29.54m (96' 11"). Her hammer throw marked a season-best for the senior.
In the 100m, Regalado took eighth with a season-best time of 12.93 seconds, Dodds took 10th with a season-best time of 13.14 seconds and Maile Kehano finished 16th at 14.24 seconds. Regalado finished 11th in the 200m at 26.93 seconds, a career-best time. The UIU 4x400m team of Thompson Williams, Johnson, Kehano and Regalado finished second with a time of 4:44.69.
The Peacocks will now prepare for the GLVC Outdoor Championships in Bolivar, Missouri from Thursday, April 30 to Saturday, May 2.
