MANKATO, Minn. - UIU women's track and field competed on Monday at the Minnesota State Open with six Peacocks either hitting a personal-best or season-best mark. Haylie Hutchinson had the highest placing of any UIU individual, taking fifth in the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 1:05.80, which was .77 seconds off her career-best time at last season's GLVC Championships.
Hutchinson also totaled season-best marks in the triple jump and 100m hurdles. She placed ninth in the triple jump at 11.07m (36' 4"). The junior placed 29th in the 100m hurdles with a season-best time of 16.19 seconds.
Rio Johnson placed eighth in the javelin with a throw of 25.86m (84' 10"), marking a personal best and beating her previous best by six feet. Maya White Eagle finished 11th in the javelin with a throw of 23.34m (76' 7").
Gracee Tompkins took 11th in both the discus and shot put. She totaled throws of 32.35m (106' 1") in the discus and 11.52m (37' 9.5") in the shot put. White Eagle placed 14th in the shot put with a throw of 10.79m (35' 4.75"), Dereka Henderson placed 19th at 8.54m (28' 0.25") and Johnson placed 20th at 8.07m (26' 5.75").
White Eagle posted a personal-best hammer throw of 29.29m (95' 9") to finish 22nd. Tompkins finished behind her in 23rd with a throw of 25.47m (83' 6").
UIU's 4x400m team, consisting of Jillian Dodds, Jasheana Tracey, Eryn Sabelka and Hutchinson, took third at 4:21.06. Upper Iowa's 4x100m team with Dodds, Tracey, Maile Kehano and Carolina Regalado took fourth with a time of 51.98 seconds.
Katie Kraft placed 11th in the 1500m with a time of 5:43.45. In the 400m, Tracey took 15th with a time of 1:03.62, Sabelka took 16th with a season-best time of 1:03.70 and Cheyanna Thompson-Williams finished 17th with a time of 1:07.55.
Regalado finished 25th in the 100m with a season-best time of 13.10 seconds, and Dodds finished 31st with a season-best time of 13.51 seconds. In the 200m, Regalado came in 28th with a time of 27.64 seconds.
The Peacocks are in action next at the Culver-Stockton Wildcat Invite in Canton, Missouri, on Saturday, April 18.
