DECORAH, Iowa - Aaliyah Comadore and Haylie Hutchinson broke school records at Saturday's Luther Invitational. Hutchinson recorded a time of 43.37 seconds in the 300m and Comadore had a long jump of 5.30m (17' 4.75").Â
Hutchinson's time in the 300m not only broke the school record, but it also broke the Luther Invite meet record and venue record at the Robert and Ann Naslund Sports and Recreation Center. The junior dethrones Kristin Culp's time of 43.70 seconds in 2018 on the Upper Iowa records.Â
Comadore's jump surpassed Chelsea Berry's in 2017 of 5.26m (17' 3.25"). This was just the freshman's second time competing in the long jump in her young career. She took first place in the event, marking her first gold finish of the season. The freshman also finished third in the 60m, qualifying with a personal best time of 8.15 seconds and running the finals in 8.24 seconds.
Hutchinson took first in the 60m hurdles, 300m, triple jump and was a part of the 4x400m team that took first place. She totaled a season-best time of 9.52 seconds in the 60m hurdles and had a triple jump of 10.62m (34' 10.25").Â
Jasheana Tracey also added a first-place finish for the Peacocks in the 400m. The UIU sophomore ran it in 1:04.44. Tracey, Hutchinson, Eryn Sabelka and Carolina Regalado were on the first-place 4x400m team that won with a time of 4:22.24.Â
Sabelka took third place in the 300m with a personal best time of 44.98 seconds, scoring the team six points. Katie Kraft added fifth-place finishes in the 1000m and the 200m steeplechase with times of 3:33.19 and 8:03.95, respectively. Regalado took fifth in the 60m with a season-best time of 8.38 seconds.Â
Gracee Tompkins finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 10.73m (35' 2.50"). Maya White Eagle had a personal-best throw of 10.43m (34' 2.75") in seventh. Dereka Henderson had a throw of 8.89m (29' 2.00"), and Rio Johnson PR'd with a throw of 8.69m (28' 6.25").Â
Freshman Naiya Pickett took eighth in the long jump at 4.19m (13' 9"). She also had a time of 30.5 seconds in the 200m. Freshman Cheyanna Thompson-Williams took 11th in the 200m with a time of 29.57 seconds.Â
UIU finished third of seven teams at the invitational, totaling 92 points. The Peacocks were two points behind Luther in second place. Hamline (Minn.) won the meet with 165 points.Â
Upper Iowa has a week off before heading to the Liz Wuertz Invite hosted by Wartburg in Waverly, Iowa, on Saturday, Feb. 21.
