WAVERLY, Iowa - The Peacock women's track and field team started the season at the Chelsey Henkenius Invitational hosted by Wartburg on Saturday. Haylie Hutchinson highlighted the day with a first-place finish in the women's triple jump while Eryn Sabelka took third in the 400m.Â
Hutchinson recorded a triple jump of 10.68m (35' 5"). She took fifth in the long jump, posting a career-best mark of 4.95m (16' 3"). The junior finished sixth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.77 seconds.Â
Sabelka took third in the 400m with a time of 1:05.25. Freshman Naiya Pickett finished 12th in the long jump at 4.26m (13' 11.75"). Freshman Cheyanna Thompson-Williams ran a 2:04.46 600m to place 14th.
Transfer Katie Kraft took 15th in the mile, running it in 6:14.64. In the shot put, Dereka Henderson placed 18th at 9.41m (30' 10.5") while Rio Johnson took 23rd at 7.97m (26' 1.75").Â
Jillian Dodds, Aaliyah Comadore and Carolina Regalado all competed in the 60m prelims. Dodds ran it in 8.26 seconds, Commodore ran it in 8.30 seconds and Regalado ran it in 8.43 seconds.Â
The Peacocks are back in action next weekend at Cornell College's Hilltop Invite. Action is scheduled for 11 a.m. in Mount Vernon.
