LAKE CITY, Minn. - Addison Weber shot 72 (+1) on Tuesday to help her finish tied for 10th place individually at Winona State's The Jewel Invitational with a total score of 152 (+10). The sophomore shot the second-lowest round of her career behind her 70 (-2) to open the season at the Wartburg Invitational.
The Peacocks placed eighth out of 12 teams, moving up one placement after Monday's first round. Upper Iowa shot 25 strokes better as a team on Tuesday with rounds of 337 (+53) and 312 (+28) to finish with a total of 649 (+81).
Weber shot 80 (+9) on Monday and 72 (+1) on Tuesday. The second round featured two birdies, 14 pars, one bogey and one double bogey. She totaled 24 pars in the tournament, which tied for the fourth-most by any golfer. This marks the second-best two-round score of Weber's career behind her 147 (+3) at the Wartburg Invitational.
Lizzy Ellis tied for 32nd, shooting 162 (+20) for her best two-round score this season with rounds of 83 (+12) and 79 (+8). The eight over par in round two marked her best round this season. She totaled 19 pars and one birdie.
Delaney Martin tied for 42nd with rounds of 85 (+14) and 81 (+10) for a total of 166 (+24). Tuesday's round was highlighted by back-to-back birdies on holes six and seven. Fern Babinski shot 91 (+20) and 80 (+9) to tie for 49th at 171 (+29). Brynn Bonefas was one stroke behind, tied for 52nd, shooting rounds of 89 (+18) and 83 (+12).
Every golfer for the Peacocks improved their score on day two. UIU finished 17 strokes behind Sioux Falls (S.D.) in seventh and five strokes ahead of Jamestown (N.D.) in ninth.
Arkansas Fort-Smith won The Jewel, shooting 592 (+24) after team rounds of 298 (+14) and 294 (+10). Minnesota State took second at 594 (+26), and Winona State placed third at 607 (+39).
Minnesota State's Emerson Garlie shot 141 (-1) to win the tournament individually. She finished one stroke ahead of Concordia-St. Paul's (Minn.) Addi Wood shooting 142 (E). Garlie's second round score of 70 (-1) was the lowest of any golfer at the tournament.
The Peacocks have a week off before heading to the Flyers Fall Intercollegiate hosted by Lewis (Ill.) on Oct. 6-7. The tournament takes place at the 72-hole Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont, Illinois.
