Upper Iowa Seeks First GLVC Victory

THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK WOMEN'S SOCCER… Upper Iowa travels to the state of Missouri for back-to-back GLVC matches. The Peacocks play Drury University on Friday, Sep. 29 at 5 p.m. and Southwest Baptist on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 12 p.m.

PEACOCKS PERFORMANCE… After a bit of a hot-streak the Peacocks have lost their last two GLVC games and now sit at 1-5-1 on the year. Freshman forward Haylie Hutchinson has been Upper Iowa's go-to playmaker as she has three assists on the season. She is tied for most assists in the GLVC with six other players and has started every game outside of the season opener. Sophomore goalkeeper Isabelle Wagner has appeared in all seven games making six starts and she has recorded 36 saves which is third most in the GLVC while saving 75% of her opponent's shots on goal. The Peacocks have experimented with all three of their goalies as sophomore Jamie Kerkvliet started their last match and has four saves and one goal allowed on the year, while junior Trinity Engelhardt appeared in their final 17 minutes making one save and allowing no goals. Defenders Chloe Jarosz, Katrina Kazluski and Maile Kapualeinani Kehano as well as midfielder Nevaeh James have started all seven games, highlighted by Kazluski appearing in a team high 595 minutes.

DOMINANT DRURY… After losing their season opener, Drury won six straight games and are coming off a 0-0 tie to Missouri S&T, giving them a record of 6-1-1. Graduate goalkeeper Kaitlin Knetzke has recorded six straight shutouts which is two more than any other goalie in the GLVC. The Panthers defensive line has played exceptionally well together as they have allowed an average of only 2.2 shots on goal per game. Senior defender Andrea Camargo has played all 90 minutes of every game and has scored a team high three goals on the season. Senior defender Rachel Dzarnowski has also helped anchor their defensive line appearing in every second of their last six games. Rounding out Drury's defensive line is sophomore Leah McDonald and senior Audrey Camargo. Junior midfielder Tara Simon ranks second on the Panthers with two goals while sophomore midfielder Elena Perez has a team high two assists.

BATTLING THE BEARCATS… Southwest Baptist is currently on a four-game losing streak and has a record of 2-6-1. Senior goalkeeper Ashlynn Edison ranks second in the GLVC with 47 saves and has recorded two shutouts on the season. Sophomore forward Tamerra Gantt has started in all nine matches, scoring one goal in the season opener and having her game of the season when she scored two goals and picked up an assist against William Woods. Despite the fact that she has missed three games, freshman midfielder Olivia Baker leads the Bearcats with two assists while also picking up one goal. A trio of upperclassmen have started every game in Southwest Baptist's defensive line with junior Kendal Weiskopf leading the team with 788 minutes, senior Madigan May picking up one assist and junior Abby Youngblood scoring one goal.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS… The Peacocks return to Harms-Eischeid Stadium as they host William Jewell on Friday, Oct. 6 at 5 p.m. and Rockhurst on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 12 p.m. William Jewell is currently 0-7 on the year and Rockhurst started strong but have been winless in their last three matches as they now have a record of 3-3-2.
