FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa women's soccer (0-1-2, 0-1 GLVC) continues GLVC action this week against the GLVC preseason top two teams in Missouri-St. Louis (2-1-1, 1-0 GLVC) and No. 22 McKendree (Ill.) (4-1, 0-1 GLVC). A time change due to forecasted rain moved the matchup in St. Louis against the Tritons to 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The Peacocks will host the Bearcats on Saturday at noon in Harms-Eischeid Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT
The Peacocks fell, 2-1, to Missouri S&T (2-1, 1-0 GLVC) this past Friday in the conference opener in Rolla, Missouri. Freshman Maryn Hudson scored UIU's lone goal unassisted in the 15th minute for a 1-0 early lead.
With the goal, Hudson became the first Peacock to score three goals in each of the first three games since Emily Gielau in 2010. She ties Mikalyn Hidde in 2024 and Birgit Rijnders in 2016 for the most goals in a season by a true freshman since 2015.
S&T's Aubrey Case scored in the 22nd minute, and Lily Simpson scored in the 51st minute to win, 2-1. UIU goalkeeper Avery Harding finished the game with eight saves, her second-most of the season.
STATISTICS SUMMARY
Hudson leads the team with six points after scoring three goals. She is tied for third in the conference in goals and is tied for second in total points. Hudson has added six shots with a team-high four shots on goal.
Haylie Hutchinson has totaled four points this season with a team-high two assists and a goal. She's tallied a team-high nine shots with three on goal. The senior ranks fifth in the GLVC in shots-per-game and is tied for the conference lead in assists.
Giovanna Alexa Garcia and Kea Cabanilla-Ku each have an assist this season. Cabanilla-Ku is third on the team in shots with three. Abigayle Bates and Taylor Marie Inocelda-Bihag have played every minute this season on defense.
Avery Harding has played every minute this season at goalkeeper. She's made 24 saves, ranking fourth in the GLVC, and her saves-per-game average ranks third. Harding has an 82.8% save percentage through three games.
AROUND THE GLVC
Missouri S&T was one of six teams to start 1-0 in GLVC play as Rockhurst (Mo.) (3-0-1, 1-0 GLVC), Illinois Springfield (3-1, 1-0 GLVC), Missouri-St. Louis (2-1-1, 1-0 GLVC), Quincy (Ill.) (1-1-2, 1-0 GLVC) and Lewis (Ill.) (2-2, 1-0 GLVC) all picked up wins.
The biggest upset in the conference was the GLVC's lone ranked team, McKendree, falling to Quincy on Sunday night, 2-1. Two goals for QU's Abbie Martin in the first four minutes of the second half gave the Hawks the win.
ABOUT THE TRITONS
Missouri-St. Louis entered as the preseason favorite to win the GLVC, totaling 10 first-place votes in the coaches' poll. The Tritons had a rude awakening in their season opener, dropping it to Pittsburg State (Kan.) (4-0), 5-0.
UMSL has been solid since then with a 1-1 draw against No. 23 Washburn (Kan.) (2-0-1) and wins over Parkside (Wis.) (2-1-1) and Southwest Baptist (Mo.) (2-1-1, 0-1 GLVC). The Tritons defeated the Bearcats 4-1 to start GLVC play this past Saturday.
Sophomore Ashton Fry and junior Maddy Kuhn each lead the Tritons with two goals each. Senior Josie Maddox has also totaled four points with two assists and one goal. She also has a team-high seven shots. Aubrey Rego and Avery Hesseldenz both have a goal for UMSL as well.
At goalkeeper, Allysa Wolf has started the past three games for Missouri-St. Louis. She's allowed three goals while totaling 13 saves, with a season-high nine saves against Washburn. Wolf has an 81.3% save percentage this season.
Head coach Stephen Cavallo is in his second season at the helm of the program. He led the Tritons to a 15-5-2 record last season with an NCAA Tournament appearance. He has a 17-6-3 record at UMSL entering Wednesday's game.
ABOUT THE BEARCATS
McKendree started 4-0 in nonconference action before falling this past weekend to Quincy, 2-1. The Bearcats play Lincoln (Mo.) (1-2, 0-1 GLVC) on Wednesday night in Jefferson City, Missouri, before making the trip to Fayette on Saturday.
Junior forward Maddie Mauch has had a very impressive start to the season, scoring a GLVC-best five goals. She's scored a goal in each of the last four games, including a two-goal performance against Union (Tenn.) (0-3). Mauch also leads the GLVC in shots (26), shots on goal (13), game-winning goals (three) and points (10).
Ally Wickenhauser has an assist and a goal this season for a total of two points. Sophomore forward Addie Gagen leads the Bearcats in assists with two. Macie Begley, Maggie Gleckler and Lea Gruber each have scored a goal this season.
McKendree leads the conference in goals allowed, with only four scored on the Bearcats through five games. Goalkeeper Peyton Baker has started all five games with 16 saves and one shutout. She has an 80% save percentage this season.
Tim Strange is in his 28th season as the head women's soccer coach at McKendree. He's been at the school since 1989 and took over the women's soccer program in 1999.
