Upper Iowa tennis battled the University of Sioux Falls in their second matchup of the weekend, held at the Winona Tennis Center. The Peacocks picked up just one win on the day as they fell to the Cougars in a 6-1 decision. UIU dropped to 0-8 on the season while USF improved to 11-4 on the year and 6-3 in the conference.

The Peacocks started the evening by dropping the doubles point. The No. 1 team of Rafaela Tavares and Johanne Vallee fell to their opponent 6-3, while Varvara Ogorodnikova and Katie O'Brian competed in the No. 2 doubles competition and were defeated 6-0. Sioux Falls won the No. 3 slot by forfeit due to a lack of UIU athletes. 

In the singles matches, Ogorodnikova kicked off competition at the No. 1 spot with a win over Talia Jones,  7-5, 6-4. That was UIU's only victory of the day, as the other three athletes fell short in their duels. Vallee took on Sydney Osborn in the No. 2 slot, but was defeated in a 6-4, 6-1 decision. Tavares put up a tough fight in the No. 3 singles against Ella Hancock, but came up shy in the final result. Tavares won the first set 6-4, fell in the second 6-3 and was trumped in the tiebreaker set 10-7. O'Brian was downed by Emily Thinnsen 6-0, 6-0 to round out the competition. The Peacocks forfeited the No. 5 and No. 6 match.

The Peacocks take a break from NSIC action next week as they face GLVC affiliate, Truman State. UIU is scheduled to take on the Bulldogs in Kirksville, Mo. on Wednesday, April 5 at 2 p.m.
