The Upper Iowa tennis team wrapped up their 2023 campaign on Sunday as they battled the University of Mary and fell in a 7-0 decision. The Peacocks finished their season 0-12 (0-11 NSIC) while the Marauders improved to 10-5 overall and 9-2 in the conference.
UIU was swept in all three matches of the doubles competition. Rafaela Tavares and
Johanne Vallee were defeated 6-0 in the No. 1 slot by Chloe Chong and Ilona Freitag. The duo of
Varvara Ogorodnikova and
Elaina Wall were trumped by Doaa Farouk Mohamed and Hala Hossam Awad in a 6-1 result. UMary picked up the No. 3 doubles point due to forfeit from Upper Iowa.
In the singles competition, the Peacocks were swept in all of their matches. Starting with the No. 1 spot, Ogorodnikova was downed by Chong 6-4, 4-1 (WR). Vallee competed in the No. 2 spot and suffered a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Farouk Mohamed. In the No. 3 singles, Tavares was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Hossam Awad. Wall competed in the No. 4 slot and was downed by Freitag in a 6-0, 6-0 result. Katie O'Brian competed in the No. 5 singles and was trumped by Samantha Purpura in a 6-1, 6-1 final. UMary's Emily Needham picked up the forfeit point in the No. 6 singles match.
