Box Score Upper Iowa tennis participated in their second match of the weekend as they dropped to St. Cloud in a 6-1 decision. The Peacocks picked up one win in the singles competition, but were defeated in all of their other duals that day. Upper Iowa dropped to 0-7 overall and 0-7 in the NSIC while St. Cloud improved to 8-4 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
The Peacocks were competitive in the doubles competition after winning the No. 2 dual, but ended up dropping the overall doubles point after being unable to compete in the No. 3 spot due to forfeit. To start things off, St. Cloud's Claudia Muñoz Perez and Johana Brower defeated
Johanne Vallee and
Rafaela Queiroga Tavares 7-6. After that, the Peacocks were victorious with the duo of
Varvara Ogorodnikova and
Alex Garcia trumped Arisa Kashima and Oriana Grott 6-3 in the No. 2 slot. Upper Iowa forfeited the No. 3 spot and dropped the overall doubles point.Â
In the singles competition,
Varvara Ogorodnikova picked up UIU's only win of the day as she defeated Oriana Grott 6-1, 6-2.
Johanne Vallee put up a tough battle in the No. 2 spot, but was ultimately defeated by Claudia Muñoz Perez 5-7, 6-3, 11-9. In the No. 3 slot,
Rafaela Queiroga Tavares was defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Arisa Kashima. Katie O'Brian was trumped by Johana Brower 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot and
Alex Garcia was downed in the No. 6 singles by SCSU's Maria Molitor. The Huskies picked up the last point of the day as Upper Iowa forfeited the No. 6 dual.
Up next, the Peacocks are back in action next weekend as they travel to Winona, Minn. to take on Augustana on Friday, March 31 and Sioux Falls on Saturday, April 1.
