Jake Hilmer is this week's NSIC Men's Basketball South Division Player of the Week; the honor marks the second time this season Hilmer has earned the award. The senior point guard paced Upper Iowa in a pair of wins over Bemidji State University and the University of Minnesota Crookston on Friday and Saturday in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium.
Hilmer is the now the eighth NSIC Player of the Week for Upper Iowa; earlier today, Lydia Haack earned her second NSIC South Division Player of the Week award as well. Katie Tornstrom, of women's basketball, earned the award last week after leading UIU to their first NSIC win over Winona State with a career-high 30 points. Hilmer led the Peacocks to the home sweep with 24.5 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals per game as UIU defeated both Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. The point guard hit 60% of his shots including three trifectas and converting 10 of his 12 free throws. Hilmer scored 29 against Bemidji State and added 20 against Minnesota Crookston. The Walker, Iowa native is averaging 21.3 points, 5.6 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals through the first half of the season.
Upper Iowa travels north into Minnesota this weekend to face the University of Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State University on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 13-14. Tip off with the Bulldogs is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., while the contest with the Huskies is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
