INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Lakes Valley Conference named Kyle Hrncir the men's basketball GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He became the first student-athlete in Upper Iowa history to earn the GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, regardless of sport.
Hrncir tabbed several accolades throughout the 2025-26 season. The College Sports Communicators voting panel named him as the program's first Academic All-American®, earning first team honors. The Farmington, Minnesota native then notched a spot on the Academic All-GLVC team and All-GLVC First team. He is also a Brother James Gaffney Distinguished Scholar for posting a 4.0 GPA for the 2025-26 academic year.
The redshirt junior averaged a team-high 16.9 points and a GLVC-best 9.0 rebounds per game while recording 13 double-doubles, ranking first in the conference and 16th nationally. Hrncir surpassed 1,000 career points on Feb. 5 against Missouri-St. Louis. He earned two GLVC Player of the Week honors, and was named NABC/D2CIDA National Player of the Week on Dec. 9 after averaging 23.3 points and 9.0 rebounds over a three-game stretch.
The league selects one student-athlete in each conference sport to be designated the GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The award is based upon athletic accomplishments, both team and individual, and academic performance in the season upon which the award is based. Each GLVC member has the opportunity to nominate one individual from its team for the award. Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average that meets College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® standards (3.50), and freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award. The voting is completed by each member institution's Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR).
