Peacock Lacrosse to Host No. 11 Lakers and Panthers

THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK LACROSSE… Upper Iowa (0-6, 0-4 GLIAC) continues their home stand with two more conference matchups against No. 11 Grand Valley State University (12-1, 3-0 GLIAC) and Davenport University (10-3, 3-1 GLIAC), who are receiving votes in the latest IWLCA Top 25. The Peacocks will take on the Lakers on Friday, Apr. 8 at 5 p.m. and the Panthers on Sunday, Apr. 10 at 12 p.m.
 
FIRST TIME AROUND… Two weeks ago, the Peacocks travelled to western Michigan to battle both Grand Valley State and Davenport. Upper Iowa lost 21-2 to the Panthers and 24-0 to the Lakers in the team's first GLIAC road weekend. Morgynn Spears scored both goals for UIU in their match against DU.
 
DIVING INTO THE STATS… Upper Iowa has scored 19 goals in their six matches this season on 63 shots as they average 10.5 attempts per game. The Peacocks have allowed 142 goals (23.7/game) in their first full season on the turf. Maya Chesky and Spears lead the offense with nine points apiece; each Peacock has scored seven goals and handed out two assists. Bailee Fabert has notched three goals and an assist, while McKenzie Mohlencamp has scored twice. Izzy Kaczik has made 54 saves (9/game) in goal for the Peacocks through six games.
 
SCOUTING THE No. 11 LAKERS… Since shutting out the Peacocks on Mar. 27, the Lakers have dominated two other GLIAC opponents. Grand Valley State improved to 12-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference with a 19-3 win over No. 23 Davenport at home before defeating Northern Michigan University on the road by a score of 21-4. GVSU is averaging 16.3 goals per match on 32.8 shots per game, 74.9% of their shots are on goal putting tremendous pressure on defenses and goalies. Sophie Conroy (39 goals, 14 assists) and Molly Bursinger (33 goals, nine assists) lead an offense that features eight players with more than 20 points registered this season and nine players with double-digit goals. Audrey Maloney has started 11 of the 13 matches in goal and has made 60 saves.
 
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS… Davenport has gone 2-2 since hosting the Peacocks on Mar. 25. The Panthers defeated Concordia University, St. Paul in a tight 12-10 game before dropping the 19-3 decision at Grand Valley State. DU bounced back with a 19-15 win at Northern Michigan, but fell to the reigning NCAA Division II Champion Lions of Lindenwood University by a score of 21-11. Davenport is averaging 16.9 goals per match on 33.2 shots per game while placing 78.9% of their shots on frame. Anna Glynn (61 goals, 17 assists) and Ayanna Turrubiates (74 goals, 2 assists) pace the Panthers on offense, while Aaliyah Miller has 28 goals and 25 assists and two players have notched more than 20 points this season. Maisy Latus leads a trio of goalkeepers with 69 saves this season; she has started in all 13 games.
 
UP NEXT… Upper Iowa will be on the road for their only game next week. The Peacocks will head to Houghton, Michigan to take on the Wildcats of Northern Michigan in a GLIAC contest on Friday, Apr. 15 at 5 p.m.
