Upper Iowa's Charalampia Grammatikaki earned Northern Sun Conference Player of the Week honors on Tuesday for the second time this season after going 4-0 over a pair of NSIC duals. Grammatikaki helped the Peacock women's tennis team clinch a berth in the 2022 NSIC Tournament with a 5-2 win over the University of Sioux Falls before closing the season with wins at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles against No. 20 Augustana University.

The NSIC Player of the Week honor marks the second time an Upper Iowa athlete has won the award this spring. Grammatikaki also earned the POTW week honors on Mar. 21 and has now won the award in two of the last four weeks.

Grammatikaki finished the weekend with a 2-0 record at both No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles against the Cougars and No. 20 Vikings, helping the Peacocks split their final weekend of the regular season. On Saturday, Apr. 9, she won 6-2, 1-0 in the top singles spot after her opponent, Megan Quandt, retired. Grammatikaki and doubles partner Jessa Michieli persevered for a gritty 7-6 win at No. 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point. UIU's No. 2 doubles duo was ahead 5-2 and was one set away from the win, but USF orchestrated a comeback and forced a tie-breaking set. The Peacock pair won 7-1 in the tiebreak after the back-and-forth match, marking the second time all season that a doubles match has gone to the tiebreak for Upper Iowa.

Against No. 20 Augustana, Grammatikaki earned a point for the Peacocks and closed her inaugural intercollegiate campaign with a dramatic three-set victory over Valeriya Monko in the No. 1 singles spot. The freshman secured a 6-4 win in set one before falling 6-4 in set two. Grammatikaki earned the hard-fought win after coming back in the third set, coming out on top, 14-12, in the tightly contested tiebreak. In No. 2 doubles, Grammatikaki and Michieli came out on top after a back-and-forth battle that required a tiebreaker to decide the winner. The Peacock pair won 7-6 thanks to a 7-3 edge in the tiebreak.

The Athens, Greece native finished the 2021-22 campaign with a 14-2 overall mark, including an 11-1 mark in 2022, after locking down Upper Iowa's top singles spot all season. Grammatikaki finished the season as the NSIC's top No. 1 singles player as her 11-1 overall mark led the conference, while her 10-1 mark against NSIC foes tied Monko for the best conference record amongst No. 1 singles players.

Upper Iowa finished the season with a 9-7 overall record and was 6-5 in NSIC contests, finishing with the conference's sixth-best mark. The Peacocks clinched their first postseason berth since slotting in as the second seed after the 2016-17 season.

Up next, UIU will square off against third-seeded Southwest Minnesota State University in Sioux Falls, S.D. at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Apr. 22.

The NSIC Tournament will include the conference's top eight teams facing off in Sioux Falls, S.D. from Apr. 22-24. The tournament will take place at the Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls. The conference tournament is a dual format with three (3) doubles and six (6) singles matches. Friday, Apr. 22, will consist of four quarter-final matches. Saturday, Apr. 23, will consist of two semi-final matches played concurrently. Sunday, Apr. 24, will consist of the championship match. Matches will be pulled once a team has reached four (4) points.
