Lindsey Pound Named Head Women's Lacrosse Coach

Upper Iowa University Vice President for Athletics Rick Hartzell has announced that Lindsey Pound will be the new Head Women's Lacrosse Coach for the Peacocks. Pound comes to Upper Iowa from Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina where he served as the assistant coach for the Tornado men's lacrosse program.

"I am excited to announce that Lindsey Pound is our Head Women's Lacrosse Coach," said Hartzell. "Lindsey brings experience as a coach and athlete in the lacrosse world. He is an aggressive and successful recruiter that will bring a renewed energy to our women's lacrosse program. He will be an excellent leader of the young women on our team; and he understands the importance of the program at our University and our affiliate membership with the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference."

Pound spent just this past season at Brevard, a NCAA Division III program which only played in six contests due to COVID-19 protocols. He was in charge of the Brevard defense and shared recruiting duties with his head coach.

"I am extremely humbled by the opportunity to take over this program and help grow the game of lacrosse in Iowa," said Pound. "These women deserve an opportunity to showcase their skills and I want to help make that possible. I feel that the men's and women's games in lacrosse are becoming more and more similar. I believe the knowledge and experience I have from the men's side will allow me to see the game through a different lens than others in my position. I wouldn't be in this position without all of the coaches I have worked with over the past six years and I can't thank them enough. Without their willingness to share their knowledge and their different styles of coaching, I wouldn't be the coach I am today. I also owe a great deal to my girlfriend and family, who have supported me throughout my lacrosse career."

Prior to Brevard, Pound coached the 2020 season at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Quakers were 6-2 prior to the abrupt end to the 2020 season due to the pandemic. Pound was an assistant at Guilford and served as the defensive coordinator.

Pound opened his career in coaching as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at his alma mater, the State University of New York at Potsdam in New York. At SUNY Potsdam, he coached eight All-Conference performers as well as a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association/Nike Senior All-Star selection.

"I want our team to be both fluid and creative while playing fast," Pound continued. "The goal is to make teams keep up with us because we set the tempo right from the start. I want hard working and dedicated players that play for each other. Women that don't give up at any point and play as hard as they can until they hear that last whistle. They need to win together and lose together no matter the outcome, they are competing as one."

Pound completed a terrific collegiate career at SUNY Potsdam where he helped lead the Bears to back-to-back SUNYAC playoff berths. He led the Bears in ground balls and caused turnovers as a junior and senior with 144 ground balls, 53 caused turnovers, 9 assists and 2 goals. Pound was named an All-SUNYAC Second Team performer as a junior, an All-SUNYAC First Team performer as a senior and earned Academic All-SUNYAC honors as well. He also was selected as the team's Defensive MVP as a senior.

The Henderson, New York native began his collegiate career at Monroe Community College in Rochester, N.Y. Pound played in 27 games for the Tribunes scoring 12 goals and adding 21 assists. He earned NJCAA All-Region 3 second team honors as a sophomore after registering 62 ground balls and caused 8 turnovers. After his sophomore season, Pound competed for the Under Armor All-American Junior College team.

Pound earned a Bachelor's degree in business administration from SUNY Potsdam in 2016.
