Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Peacock women's tennis team got back on the court this weekend in Winona, Minn. After playing with five last weekend due to an injury, the team suffered another injury during play and entered the weekend's action with four healthy players. The quartet of Peacocks battled hard, but came up on the short side of the final scores as all four played up in the lineup to compensate for the injured players.
 
Saturday Recap… Upper Iowa faced Minnesota State University Moorhead on Friday. The Dragons won both doubles matches played to earn the point and then secured the victory with three wins in the four singles matches played. Upper Iowa's win came at No. 2 singles where Varvara Ogorodnikov defeated Lorissa Yuen 6-4, 6-2. Deimanted Krivickaite nearly grabbed a win at No. 1 singles, but fell 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7) to Julia Geske.
 
Sunday Recap… On Sunday, the team matched up with the University of Mary. Krivickaite teamed up with Alejandra Abella lost a hard fought 7-5 match at No. 1 doubles and Ogorodnikova paired with Mya Herrmann in a 6-4 loss at No. 2. After the close losses, the Marauders claimed the doubles point and an early lead moving to singles play. Krivickaite lost another match at No. 1 in a tiebreaker set; this time a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-3) decision to Tasha Dembo. Ogorodnikova made it a 2-0 weekend at No. 2 singles thanks to a 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) come-from-behind win over Yursa Hegy after dropping the first set in a tiebreaker.
 
Records… After the decisions, the Peacocks are now 2-6 on the year and 1-5 against Northern Sun Conference opponents. MSUM is 7-0 overall and 6-0 in conference following wins over UIU and Winona State University this weekend, while UMary split the weekend to move to 5-1 both overall and in the NSIC.
 
Up Next… The Peacocks will head to Grand Forks, N.D. next weekend for another two NSIC matches against Bemidji State University on Friday, Feb. 28 and the University of Minnesota Crookston on Saturday, Feb. 29.
 
­Quotables… Head Coach Leo Millet on Saturday's match… "Today was a tough match especially with us only having four healthy players. We are dealing with a few injuries at the moment, but hopefully we will get everybody back soon. Varia played a great match today in singles after conceding a close double match with Mya. The two developed a good chemistry playing together, but unfortunately lost 5 games at deuce. Deimante also played a really close match in singles against a strong opponent. Unfortunately she lost in the 3rd set tiebreaker 10-7 after saving five match points."
 
Millet on Sunday's decision… "We played much better in doubles today and had two really close matches. We had chances in both, but failed to convert and win the key points. I am happy with the improvements in doubles and we will keep getting stronger. For singles, we got a great match by Varvara, who showed great toughness and determination against a really solid player. Deimante was really close to winning her match today, but Dembo played a great match and came out on top. Alejandra and Mya played really hard as well, but lost against two solid players."

Millet on next weekend… "Next weekend will be really important in shaping the rest of the season. We are looking forward to facing Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston."
