THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK SOFTBALL… The Upper Iowa softball team will head to Springfield, Mo. after adding a three-game series with Drury University to the schedule for this weekend. The Peacocks will play two games against the Panthers on Friday at 1 and 3 p.m. ahead of the series finale on Saturday morning at 12 p.m. Live stats will be available for the games through the link at UIUPeacocks.com/live.
OPENING WEEKEND IN ARKANSAS… Upper Iowa kicked off the 2020 campaign last weekend at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic in Bentonville, Ark. The Peacocks dropped a pair of battles to two teams ranked in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top-25 preseason poll and came up short in their other two games, falling 6-5 in extra innings to Washburn University and 5-3 to Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Upper Iowa tallied 22 hits throughout the weekend including four home runs and a pair of doubles. The Peacocks grabbed 36 total bags and scored on 15 occasions. Junior
Katie Crogan batted .429 and slugged .857 to lead the team with 12 total bases, six hits, and three RBI in UIU's four games.
Ali Green also totaled three RBI with four hits in 12 at-bats, while
Kennedy Newell (.400) and
Calista Brockman (.375) each batted above .300 and registered multiple hits.
SCOUTING DRURY… The Panthers (4-3) went 3-1 at the Harding Classic Tournament last weekend in Searcy, Ark. Drury outscored its opponents 20-11 between the four games highlighted by a run-rule victory over Midwestern State (10-2) and the Panthers' second shutout of the season against Delta State (4-0). Drury is batting .297 as a team with 55 hits, 24 runs scored, 20 RBI, 13 doubles and one homerun. The Panther pitching squad holds a 2.07 ERA.
UP NEXT… Upper Iowa will have a week off before traveling to Clermont, Fla. For the PFX Spring Games where the Peacocks will face 10 opponents between Mar. 7-12.Â
