Box Score The Peacock tennis team played their first dual of the fall season on Tuesday afternoon in Dubuque, Iowa. Upper Iowa visited a former foe in the form of the University of Dubuque. The two were members together in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, now named the American Rivers Conference. UIU won the match 6-1.
In doubles action, UIU claimed two wins to secure the point heading into singles play.
Shakhnaza Zhanatova and
Deimante Krivickaite defeated Hailey Wang and Ashley Quinonez 6-0 at No. 1 doubles and
Carolina Abella teamed with
Elaina Wall to win at No. 3 doubles (6-2) over Samantha Heins and Patient Jabbah. The Spartans took the match at No. 2 doubles as Lauren Colon and TaDazja Perkins won 6-2 over
Alejandra Abella and
Mya Herrmann.
Upper Iowa won five of the six singles matches to claim the 6-1 dual victory. Zhanatova dominated her match winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, while Krivickaite won at No. 2 singles thanks to a pair of 6-2 scores. Dubuque's win came at No. 3 when Colon bested
Carolina Abella (6-3, 6-4).
Alejandra Abella picked up her sister with a victory at No. 4 6-3, 6-3 over Perkins and Herrmann topped Heins 7-6, 6-2. Wall closed out the singles play with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 6 over Jabbah.
