While the dual began at 165 pounds, the biggest moment of the night for the home team came at 125 pounds. Upper Iowa got a big win when Maleek Williams scored a major decision over Brett Velasquez (No. 2) to bring the crowd to their feet. Williams scored the first three points of the bout with hands-to-face penalty and a takedown. After an escape for Velasquez, Williams scored a second takedown. Velasquez chose bottom to start the second period trailing 5-2. An escape and takedown for the SCSU wrestler tied the score at 5-5, but Williams quickly escaped to retake the 6-5 edge. Williams survived some tough positions to start the third period and scored a reversal to widen the gap. A late snap takedown and four nearall points allowed Williams to post a 14-6 major decision and give UIU their first points of the night.

Devin FitzPatrick (No. 11) and Cody Nelson opened the dual at 165 pounds. FitzPatrick scored a takedown and an escape around a Nelson reversal to take a 3-2 lead into the third period. At 174 pounds, Kolton Eischens (No. 2) scored a takedown and four nearfall points, but Gundrum was able to pick up a reversal to set the score at 6-2 heading to the second period. Gundrum had a solid second period with a two-minute ride on top and scored a reversal to open the third period cutting the gap to 6-4. Eischens secured the win with a reversal of his own on the way to an 8-5 decision.

In a matchup of nationally-ranked wrestlers, UIU's Dalton Hahn (No. 11) and Chance Helmick (No. 4) faced off at 184 pounds. Helmick scored the only points in the opening frame with a takedown. Hahn escaped early in the second period, but Helmick pounced back on top with a second takedown. An escape before time expired cut the gap to 4-2 heading to the third period. Helmick added four points in the final period with an escape, takedown and a ride time point to win 8-2.
