SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Ethen Doty (149) wrapped up the 2025-26 season for Upper Iowa men's wrestling at the NCAA Division II National Championships on Friday at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. The redshirt senior went 2-2, falling one win short of being an All-American.
Doty entered the tournament as the No. 15 seed, opening with a match against No. 9 seed Belmont Abbey's (N.C.) Skyler Caban. The Peacock wrestler led 10-0 after the first period, but Caban rallied with three third-period takedowns and won via fall with five seconds left.
The UIU redshirt senior rebounded with a 16-5 major decision win over No. 11 seed Alex Castaneda of Colorado Mesa. Doty recorded two takedowns and a four-point nearfall in the first period. He then picked up his second win with a first-period fall (2:47) over No. 14 seed Bam West of Central Oklahoma.
That set up a Super Region V Championship rematch with No. 5 seed Rudy Lopez of Northern State (S.D.). Lopez recorded a takedown in the first period, but Doty escaped to trail 3-1. A Doty two-point nearfall in the second period tied it up, but Lopez immediately escaped and kept the match scoreless in the third period to win, 4-3.
Doty finishes the season with a 25-8 record and as a two-time NCAA Division II Championship qualifier for the Peacocks. He became the 107th Division II National Qualifier for the program this season. During his career, Doty posted an 83-45 record while competing for UIU and a 99-47 record including his redshirt freshman unattached season.
