FAYETTE, Iowa - UIU men's wrestling heads to the NCAA Super Region V Championships hosted by Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minnesota. Action begins on Saturday, Feb. 28, with Sessions I and II at 10 a.m. Session III placement matches start at 5 p.m.
Wrestlers who place in the top three of their weight class advance to the NCAA Championships in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on March 13-14. 30 wrestlers from each of the six regions across the nation will qualify. Saturday's tournament will feature 11 teams, and roughly 110 wrestlers are scheduled to participate.

LAST TIME OUT
Upper Iowa took third at the GLVC Championships, losing to Maryville (Mo.) in the semifinals, 25-17. The Peacocks dominate UIndy with a 30-11 win in the third-place match.
Ethen Doty (149) and Nick Mueller (165) each went 2-0 for UIU. Doty picked up a ranked win over No. 11 Gavin Garcia of UIndy. Treyton Ackman (125), Dawson Schmit (133), Tanner Arjes (141), Collin Altensey (157), Griffin Luke (174), Braxten Westerndorf (184) and Matthew Marcum (197) each picked up a win on the day.
McKendree (Ill.) won the GLVC Tournament with a 20-18 win over Maryville in the championship match. This marked the Bearcats' second-straight GLVC Championship.
THE OPEN MAT RANKINGS
The Peacocks have two ranked wrestlers in this week's Open Mat rankings. Doty enters the week at No. 6 at 149 pounds, and Luke is ranked No. 15 at 174 pounds. As a team, UIU is ranked No. 24 in the team dual rankings.
NWCA RANKINGS
Doty was the lone ranked wrestler in the Feb. 19 NWCA poll for the Peacocks. The redshirt senior is ranked No. 8 at 149 pounds.
The Peacocks received six votes in the poll, tying for 33rd. McKendree fell two spots to No. 10 with seven ranked wrestlers in the poll.
Nebraska-Kearney reclaimed the top spot from Central Oklahoma with eight individuals ranked. UNK entered the season as the No. 1-ranked team in the preseason after winning last season's National Championship.
NCAA SUPER REGION V PREVIEW
The tournament features five NWCA-ranked teams in No. 6 Wisconsin Parkside, No. 7 Augustana (S.D.), No. 9 St. Cloud State (Minn.), No. 14 UMary (N.D.) and No. 25 Minnesota State. Northern State (S.D.) and Upper Iowa are the only two other teams receiving votes. Southwest Minnesota State, Minot State (N.D.), MSU Moorhead (Minn.) and Sioux Falls (S.D.) round out the field.
The tournament features 28 ranked wrestlers in the NWCA. The field is highlighted by No. 1 Max Ramberg (197) of Augustana (S.D.). St. Cloud State's Joel Jesuroga (157) and Cole Glazier (184), along with Wisconsin-Parkside's Jalen Spuhler (149) and Dajun Johnson (174), are all ranked No. 2.
Doty has his work cut out for him at 149 pounds, which features the most ranked wrestlers with five. 157 pounds and 174 pounds each have four ranked wrestlers. The 125-pound weight class has the least, with one ranked wrestler.
Augustana has the most NWCA-ranked wrestlers entering regionals with seven. St. Cloud State has six ranked wrestlers, and Wisconsin-Parkside has five.

UPPER IOWA SUPER REGIONAL HISTORY
The Peacocks have had 106 National Qualifiers in program history. Most recently, Lawson Losee (174) and Doty, who qualified last season with runner-up finishes. Losee earned All-American honors by taking sixth at nationals.
The most wrestlers the Peacocks have qualified in a single season is seven in both 2010-11 and 2011-12. UIU has qualified six members five times in 2008-09, 2009-10, 2012-13, 2015-16 and 2017-18. Upper Iowa's most recent Regional Champion is Chase Luesman at 165 pounds in 2024.
