THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK SOFTBALL…
Upper Iowa (18-20, 5-13 NSIC) wraps up their 2018 regular-season campaign this week with a six-pack of Northern Sun Conference games. The Peacocks will travel to Mankato, Minn. for a double-dip with the Mavericks of Minnesota State University on Wednesday, Apr. 25 at 2 p.m. The team returns to Fayette for the final weekend with a doubleheader with the Wolves of Northern State University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 28. The regular-season finale ends Sunday, Apr. 29 at 12 p.m. against the Dragons of Minnesota State University Moorhead for Senior Day. This weekend's games will be live streamed on UIU TV and can be viewed in eastern Iowa on KCRG TV 9.2 and 9.3.

PEACOCK STORYLINES...

STRIKEOUT CANCER: Saturday's doubleheader with the Northern State Wolves will have a special meaning for everyone involved. The Peacocks are hosting Strikeout Cancer day, and all players will go out on the diamond and play for a loved one they either lost to cancer or is currently battling cancer. Individual ribbons will be worn with different colors representing different types of cancer. The team will also wear special jerseys Saturday that are currently being auctioned off, and raffles are available to buy as well. The money donated goes to cancer research and funding at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

LAST WEEK: The Peacocks went 2-4 last week in NSIC action, with both wins coming at home against the Wildcats of Wayne State College. The offense came alive, scoring 16 times in two games en route to the sweep. Over the weekend, however, it was a different story against the University of Mary and Minot State University. UIU was held to a total of 10 runs in four games, and dropped the four contests to drop to under .500 for the first time this season.

"HORTON" HEARS A WHO!: Hortonville, Wis. native Jordyn Brennan has been on an offensive tear recently for Upper Iowa. The sophomore not only tallied eight hits in 19 at-bats to lead the team with a .421 average, but four of those hits went for extra bases. Brennan tallies a double, two triples, and a solo home run to slug .842 for the week. She leads the team in batting average this season at .364, and is second in slugging at .555.

SENIOR DAY:
The Peacocks will honor their lone senior on Sunday against MSU Moorhead, and Shannon Nix will get a well-deserved ovation. The Plato, Minn. native spent the last four seasons at Upper Iowa, and has played and started every game this season behind the plate. Nix is hitting .276 this season, and has been extremely consistent behind the dish, tallying a .987 fielding percentage as a catcher.
