PEACOCK STORYLINES...
TUESDAY SWEEP: UIU picked up a sweep of the Wayne State Wildcats Tuesday at the Eischeid Softball Complex in Fayette. The team and the facilities staff at Upper Iowa worked hard for two days to get the field to play. The results were well worth all the work as the Peacocks posted their first double header sweep since the first two days of the season in early February. Game one featured a shutout from
Emily Kisch, while the final game the highest scoring total for UIU in NSIC play this season, scoring nine times.
Â
NSIC POSITIONING: Prior to this weekend's action, the Peacocks were currently in 10th place in the NSIC standings, with a 5-9 conference record. UIU is tied with Southwest Minnesota State, and split with the Mustangs earlier this season. The top 10 in the league make the conference tournament in Sioux Falls beginning May 3, and the team currently holds a one-game lead on MSU Moorhead, with two games to play against the Dragons, which will occur on the final day of the regular season on Apr. 29.
Â
SPECIAL "K": Sophomore
Emily Kisch has been writing a plethora of "K's" in the books this season with her strikeout totals in the circle. The right-hander has struck out 83 batters this season, which ranks fourth in the Northern Sun. Kisch added eight punch-outs against the Wildcats on Wednesday during her complete-game shutout win. For the season, the Elgin, Ill. native is 9-6 with a team-leading 3.54 earned run average.
Â
OFFENSE CLICKING: Upper Iowa swung the bats particularly well Tuesday in Fayette, collecting 19 hits in the two wins over Wayne State.
Julia Buffington and
Jordyn Brennan led the offense with four hits apiece, while
Shannon Nix and
Katie Crogan each added three hits in the two games. Buffington drove in four runs, while Brennan scored four times followed by Buffington and Crogan, who each scored three times. UIU will look to keep that momentum going this weekend in North Dakota.
