The Peacock tennis team split a pair of Northern Sun Conference duals this weekend in Grand Forks, N.D. Upper Iowa dropped a 5-4 decision to Bemidji State University on Saturday, but scored a 7-2 win over the University of Minnesota Crookston on Sunday morning.
 
Against the Beavers, the Peacocks won No. 1 singles 8-4 thanks to the teamwork of Shakhnaza Zhanatova and Anna Okolot. BSU got the final two doubles points with an 8-6 win at No. 2 over Lavanya Singh and Lara Peco and a win by forfeit at No. 3.
 
In singles action, the Peacocks got wins at No. 1 by Zhanatova (7-5, 6-0), No. 2 by Okolot (7-6 (8-6), 5-7, 1-0 (10-8)) and No. 5 by Breanna Heichert (4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (13-11)). The Beavers secured the dual win with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 and a win by forfeit at No. 6.
 
On Sunday, the Peacocks rebounded to defeat the Golden Eagles 7-2. UIU won all seven matches on the courts, surrendering the only two points to Minnesota Crookston with forfeits at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
 
Upper Iowa picked up an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles behind Zhanatova and Okolot and an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles thanks to Singh and Peco. In singles, Zhanatova, Okolot, Singh, Peco and Heichert all scored victories. The five players only surrendered 13 of the 63 games competed for in singles competition.
 
Upper Iowa will travel to Mankato, Minn. to face another pair of Northern Sun Conference foes next weekend, Feb. 17-18. The Peacocks will take on the Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University on Sunday at 3 p.m.
