The Upper Iowa women's tennis team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to earn a 5-4 win over Minnesota State University Moorhead and claim second place in the final Northern Sun Conference standings. The team has secured the second-seed for the upcoming (Apr. 22-23) Northern Sun Conference Championships being held at Lifetime Fitness in Minnetonka, Minn.
 
On Sunday, the Dragons took a 2-1 lead into singles after scoring an 8-6 win at No. 2 and an 8-5 victory at No. 3. Isabella Sella and Linn Sorman posted the only win for the Peacocks at No. 1 thanks to an 8-5 score.
 
The teams split the first two singles matches as the Dragons' Chessa Jones won the No. 6 match 6-2, 6-2 and the Peacocks' Anna Okolot claimed the victory at No. 5 (6-1, 6-3). Upper Iowa then rallied to take a 4-3 lead in the match with wins at No. 2 and No. 1. Shakhnaza Zhanatova got a win at No. 2 (6-1, 7-5) and Sella won her match at No. 1 (6-4, 6-3).
 
The Dragons battled back with a win at No. 4 when Alexis Konecne outlasted Kelly Jachymowski 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3). The win tied the match at 4-4 and put the final outcome in the hands of the players at No. 3.
 
Sorman secured the hard fought win 6-4, 7-5 over Ricquel Ramsbottom to push Upper Iowa ahead and secure the victory. 
 
With the win, UIU closes the regular season with a 9-4 overall record and a 9-2 mark in the Northern Sun. MSU Moorhead closed out their regular season with a 12-7 record overall and a 7-4 mark in the conference.
 
Upper Iowa is one of eight teams that will play for the NSIC Women's Tournament Championship in Minnetonka in a couple of weeks. Augustana, which won its eighth straight NSIC regular season championship, will be the number one seed in the eight-team single elimination tournament and take on the eighth seed, Minnesota Duluth. The Peacocks will challenge the seven-seeded Huskies of St. Cloud State in the first round. The three-six matchup will feature Winona State taking on Bemidji State and the final match of the day is between MSU Moorhead and Minnesota State.

All quarterfinals will be played on Saturday, Apr. 22 and both semifinal matches will take place on Sunday, Apr. 23 at 8 a.m. with the championship match set for noon. 

The winner of the NSIC Women's Tennis Tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Central Region Tournament. The NCAA DII Central Region Tournament will take place on campuses on April 29 through May 2. The NCAA DII Championships (Final 16) will take place on May 10-13 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Spring, Florida. The NCAA women's tennis selections will be announced on Tuesday, April 25, at 7 p.m. (CT) at www.NCAA.com.
