The Peacock women's tennis team took a step toward securing second place in the final regular season standings and a second-seed in the upcoming Northern Sun Conference Championships. Upper Iowa defeated the University of Mary on Saturday evening in Moorhead, Minn. The 6-3 win improved UIU's overall record to 8-4 and their NSIC mark to 8-2 with losses to NSIC Regular Season Champion Augustana and Winona State University. 

Upper Iowa claimed a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches winning at No. 1 and 2. Isabella Sella and Linn Sorman combined for an impressive 8-2 win at No. 1, while Kelly Jachymowski and Shakhnaza Zhanatova controlled their match to win 8-3 at No. 2. U-Mary picked up the win at No. 3 doubles with an 8-4 win.

The Peacocks posted wins at No. 1, 2, 4 and 5 in singles action. Sella, Zhanatova and Jachymowski all recorded two victories on the day, while Anna Okolot went 1-1 thanks to the win at No. 5 singles.

UIU will take on the Dragons of MSU Moorhead on Sunday. The team can earn the runner-up spot in the conference standings and the second-seed in the championships with a win, but could fall to the fourth seed, despite tying for second, if the Dragons come out on top.
