Huskies Knock Off Peacocks in NSIC Tennis Championships

St. Cloud State 5 - Upper Iowa 4. The 7-seed St. Cloud State upset 2-seed Upper Iowa in the quarterfinals of the NSIC Tennis Championships. Each team won three singles matches, but the Huskies got two of the three doubles matches to fuel the win.

The Peacock women's tennis season came to an ubrupt end on Saturday morning in Minnetonka, Minn. Upper Iowa was upset in their quarterfinal match against the Huskies of St. Cloud State University at the Northern Sun Conference Tennis Championships. The seventh-seeded Huskies claimed two of the three doubles matches to win 5-4 and advance to the NSIC Championship semis on Sunday.

Upper Iowa won the No. 1 doubles match 8-5 behind the play of Isabella Sella and Linn Sorman, but dropped the matches at No. 2 (8-5) and No. 3 (9-8 (7-5)) to head to the singles matches down 2-1.

Shakhnaza Zhanatova won the No. 2 singles bout 6-2, 6-0 to tie the match, but Jill Kedrowski of SCSU picked up a win at No. 4 (6-2, 6-2) to give the Huskies a 3-2 advantage. Anna Okolot tied the match again with a win for UIU at No. 5 (7-5, 6-1), but SCSU got back on top 4-3 with a win at No. 6 by Ann Marie White (6-4, 6-2). Sella posted a 6-2, 6-7 (7-1), 6-4 three-set win at No. 1 singles evening the match at 4 wins apiece and resting the final decision on the No. 3 match. Quintos dos Santos claimed the final win over Sorman (7-5 (6-3), 6-2) to push the Huskies into the semifinals.

Upper Iowa's year ends after the team finished second in the Northern Sun Conference regular season with a 9-2 record against conference foes. The Peacocks posted a 9-5 overall record.
