Northern Iowa 6 - Upper Iowa 1
The Peacock tennis team traveled down to Waterloo, Iowa to take on an NCAA Division I opponent, the Panthers of the University of Northern Iowa (6-2). Upper Iowa (6-1, 6-0 NSIC) dropped its first match of the season, 6-1, at the BlackHawk Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
UNI got the day going by claiming the doubles point by winning the matches at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles 6-3 and 6-2.
Kelly Jachymowski and Shakhnaza Zhanatova dropped a 6-3 decision followed by
Breanna Heichert and
Anna Okolot falling 6-2. Once the two wins were claimed, the No. 1 Panther team withdrew from the match with
Isabella Sella and
Linn Sorman had a 3-2 lead at the time. UNI led 1-0 heading into the singles action.
In singles, every Peacock moved up a spot with reigning two-time NSIC Player of the Week
Isabella Sella resting an injury. Okolot picked up the win at #4 singles over Eve Small, dropping the first set 6-3, but bouncing back with a win in the second set 6-3. The senior then grabbed the win by claiming the tie-breaker 10-8 to pick up the win.
