Upper Iowa dropped its first Northern Sun match of the season on Friday night in Winona, Minn. The Winona State Warriors topped the Peacocks 7-2, claiming five of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches.
Anna Okolot earned a win in #5 singles, 6-2, 6-1 for the lone singles win, while
Kelly Jachymowski and
Shakhnaza Zhanatova paired up for an 8-5 win at #2 doubles.
With the loss, the Peacocks drop to 6-2 on the season, and 6-1 in NSIC play. Winona State improves to 7-4 and 5-1 in league play.
In the singles competition Sella (No. 1), Zhanatova (No. 2), Sorman (No.3), Jachymowski (No. 4), and Heichert (No. 6) all took losses in singles play, with Sella dropping a close 7-6 decision in set one. Okolor was strong at #5, but Winona State was strong all evening in the home win.
Upper Iowa will have a week off before heading down to Des Moines, Iowa for a matchup with Division I Drake University. The Peacocks and Bulldogs will get underway at 11 a.m. at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
