Upper Iowa kept their perfect record intact with a 9-0 shutout over Southwest Minnesota State University (2-6, 0-4 NSIC) in Winona, Minn. The Peacocks are now 4-0 this spring and all four wins have come against Northern Sun Conference foes.
On Sunday, the Peacocks claimed all three double matches over the Mustangs as
Linn Sorman and
Isabella Sella teamed up for an 8-2 victory at No. 1,
Shakhnaza Zhanatova paired with
Kelly Jachymowski at No. 2 and won 8-4 and
Breanna Heichert and
Anna Okolot got together for an 8-4 win at No. 3.
In the singles competition Sella (No. 1), Zhanatova (No. 2), Sorman (No.3) and Okolot (No. 4) all controlled their matches to dominate in two sets combining to give up only six games to their opponents. Heichert was strong in the second set of the No. 6 singles match winning 6-1 after outlasting her opponent 6-4 in the first set. Jachymowski surrendered the opening set to Britney Thompson of SMSU 6-1, but battled back with 7-5 win in set two and a 12-10 victory in the tiebreaker.
UIU will head to Sartell, Minn. this coming Saturday, Feb. 25, for a pair of Northern Sun Conference matches against St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota Duluth at 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
