The Peacock tennis team starts their conference schedule 2-0 after posting a 6-3 win over the Bemidji State Beavers on Sunday in Winona, Minn. This marks the third consecutive season Upper Iowa has opened their NSIC slate 2-0, topping both UMC and BSU in the process all three years.
 
Bemidji State took the #1 doubles to start the day, defeating UIU's Isabella Sella and Linn Sorman 8-2. Kelly Jachymowski and Shakhnaza Zhanatova teamed up for an 8-2 win themselves at #2 doubles, while Anna Okolot and Breanna Heichert earned a hard-fought 8-5 victory at #3 doubles.
 
Upper Iowa dominated the first two in singles action combining to win 24 of the 26 games played. Sella pitched a pair of shutouts in #1 singles, 6-0, while Zhanatova picked up a pair of 6-2 victories. Sorman battled hard at #3 singles for a 7-5 and 6-3 victory, while Jachymowski earned wins 6-3 and 6-1. Bemidji State claimed the final two singles matches, but Okolot fought hard at #5, dropping 7-5 and 6-3. Heichert dropped 6-3 and 6-2 decisions to clos out the day.
 
The Peacocks will be return to Winona, Minn. next weekend to take on Minnesota State University, Mankato and Southwest Minnesota State University. UIU and MSU match up on Saturday, Feb. 18, and then take on SMSU on Sunday, Feb. 19.
